Carol Brown

Carol Brown is a New Zealand born dancer, choreographer, artist-scholar and director.

She completed one of the first practice-led PhDs at the University of Surrey in 1995.  Her PhD triptych, The Mechanics of Fluids toured internationally and led to her appointment as Choreographer in Residence at the Place Theatre London where she founded Carol Brown Dances with composer Russell Scoones.  Through collaborations with designers, scientists, architects, composers, dramaturgs and digital artists, Carol Brown Dances invents new choreographies for stage, site and screen.

The company have toured internationally, performed in major arts festivals (Roma Europa, Dance Umbrella, Ars Electronica), held residencies in many cities and been commissioned to create urban dance works including for Parc Guell (Barcelona) and Perth CBD (Strut Dance).

Carol was appointed Head of Dance and Professor Choreography at the Victorian College of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, University of Melbourne in 2019 and lives in Melbourne with her partner and teenage children.
