Prof. Jools Gilson

Jools Gilson is a dance artist, writer and educator. Her practice is knotted, knitted and woven between the disciplines of dance theatre, creative writing, visual art and broadcast radio. Her core process is always choreographic and embodied and she feels like dance is home, even in a gallery and on the radio.

Recent / forthcoming dance collaborations include writing / performance for Weathering by Mary Wycherley (2019 – 22), live writing for Middle End Beginning by Lucia Kickham (2021) and The Vintage with Cindy Cummings & Mary Nunan (Firkin Crane Ceist Residencies 2022/23). She was a 2021 Fulbright Scholar hosted by Theatre & Dance at Colorado University Boulder where she developed performance R&D for a new dance/climate project called Tempestries at the B2 Center for Media, Arts & Performance. Her current work is focussed on developing frameworks for working with embodied performance / writing practices and climate scientists. She is Professor of Creative Practice in the School of Film, Music & Theatre at University College Cork.
